Cross-country skiing
Parts of our ski slopes are the highest located in Norway, where we construct ski trails all the way up to Formokampen, 1428 m.o.h. In 2017, the Danish major newspaper "Politiken" named Høvringen one of the world's ten best destinations for cross-country skiing. Talk to Monica at the front desk before planning your day trip. You will receive important information regarding wind direction and how the current conditions in the mountains are.
Our well-groomed trails start right outside the hotel, and we can offer 150 km of marked trails, of which over 100 km are groomed by snowcats. Most trails are located in high mountain terrain, but we also have sheltered forest trails for days with colder winds. There are several mountain cafés, such as Peer Gynt Hytta and Dovrehytta, where you can travel and buy refreshments.
For the more experienced skiers, we recommend trips to peaks up to 2000 m.o.h. which is easily reached on day trips. There are vast plains at Høvringen and the varied terrain is what makes our guests spend their winter holidays at Høvringen year after year.
If you want to rent skis, snowshoes, sledges or other equipment, Sne og Vand has a good selection of all the things you would need for a ski excursion. Rondane Ski Center offers guided tours on both skis and snowshoes in addition to the traditional ski school.
The snowcats are equipped with GPS, so if you visit skisporet.no you can always check which trails have been prepared.
Moonlight tour
Every Saturday night at 21.00 we take our guests on a moonlight tour. We use headlights - which we turn off if the sky is clear and you’ll be able to see the moon and the stars. The duration of the tour lasts about 40 minutes and is a magical experience in some of the best winter locations Norway has to offer. The tour ends around a bonfire outside the hotel, where we serve hot toddy under Rondane's starry sky.
Snowcat
Our snowcat, a Bombardier from 1941, drives everyday from the hotel property and approximately 5 km up and into the Rondane National Park. Choose whether you want to sit inside the car or be pulled up behind the snowmobile hanging on to a joint rope. This is a wonderful and different experience and a clear "must" for many of our regulars.
Snowshoes
A trip using snowshoes offers you a different and exciting dimension and allows you to experience other parts of the mountain range than where the traditional trails go. You rent snowshoes from us, and receive recommendations from our staff regarding where you should make the trip.
Every Tuesday afternoon, Rondane Ski Center arranges a snowshoe tour with a guide. The trip goes through exciting terrain along Høvringsåa and lasts about 1.5 hours. For groups, we are happy to arrange longer trips if desired.
"Off-piste" with mountain skis
For those who want to explore the area outside the groomed trails, there is an Eldorado of possibilities. Experience the enormous and untouched nature in Rondane National Park, and experience skiing completely out of the ordinary. Feel free to ask us for advice and tips on how you should plan and carry out such a trip.
Ski lessons
Our partner "Sne & Vand" conducts courses for beginners and for those who want to perfect an already good skiing technique.
In addition, Rondane Ski Center offers both individual tuition and group tuition on the ski school's practice slope. The ski school teaches children, beginners and those with some experience.
Ski tour with guide
Rondane Ski Center arranges guided half-day tours on Thursdays. The trip is adapted to the weather, and you go both in and out the groomed trails.
Ski trip to Mysuseter (return by bus)
The trip from Høvringen through Rondane National Park to Mysuseter is about 20 km and is located in light high mountain terrain. Rondane Ski Center arranges return by bus from Mysuseter to Høvringen every Wednesday and Friday.
Trip to Dombås Ski Lifts (by bus)
If you would like to experience alpine skiing one day, Rondane Ski Center arranges weekly trips to Dombås Ski Lifts. The bus leaves Høvringen at 10.00 and returns around 17.00. The trip to Dombås takes about 45 minutes.
