From mountain farm to hotel

Høvringen Høgfjellshotell is situated on a plateau just above the tree line at 960 meters above sea level, at the entrance to Rondane National Park. It's a natural starting point for excursions in all directions, both in summer and winter. With its central location between Oslo, Trondheim, and Western Norway, Høvringen is an excellent place for an active and comfortable holiday.

Skjelleseter, one of the 30 mountain farms at Høvringen, has developed over four generations into what is today Høvringen Høgfjellshotell. The expansion took place through countless extensions, requiring significant technical and architectural expertise. Today, the hotel stands as a successful example of harmonious interplay through the different eras of its hundred-year construction history. The building has a unique character beyond the ordinary. During the last 30 years of the development period (1960–1990), Kjell Lund and Nils Slaatto, two of Norway's most skilled architects, served as the hotel's advisors.

The hotel is decorated with art (paintings, textiles, and crafts) collected over the past hundred years.

In the late 1800s and into the previous century, it was not uncommon for the “elite” to retreat to the mountains to recharge in scenic surroundings. After the war, mountain hotels grew more popular as families became more financially secure. Popularity kept rising, and the golden age of mountain hotels is often referred to as being between the 1950s and 1970s. At Høvringen, you can relive this golden era. Our guests can stay in rooms styled from the 1960s and truly experience nostalgia from the hotel's glory days. The oldest part of the hotel was built in the 1920s – where history is truly tangible!
